Identities - Marilyn Monroe; Cecil Beaton

Marilyn Monroe sits as Cecil Beaton takes the photograph of her in the Ambassador Hotel, New York. Beaton was a fashion and portrait photographer who took photos for both Vogue and Vanity Fair Magazine, two of the most popular fashion magazine in the industry. The photo Beaton took of Monroe shows her holding a flower, symbolising her beauty elegance, knowing that she is attractive as Monroe is known to be the queen of pin up. The photograph is shown black and white, however Monroe is known to have red lipstick as the icon of her beauty, similar colour to the flower as they both share the same meaning. Around Monroe are two sets of lighting. Looking at the depth of field, the light on her left , lights up her side whilst the light on the right of Beaton is aimed directly infront of her, in an angle, focusing on her figure. The light is also focusing on beaton, showing the main artist at work. However Pfizenmaier (Beatons assistant) captures the reality of the photo, what would happen in a studio, realistic view of fashion photography.
